Izar's Artist Statement
I love the feeling... ...of starting a project and not knowing where it will end up...
My mood will sometimes take me to new places or show me new ways to express myself. It's an amazing feeling to get lost in your work and forget that the world is still revolving. Once I get an idea in my head, I can't wait to begin right away.
When I have time to work in detail, I prefer pencil for the control I have over what I'm working on. I also enjoy oil because I love the freedom I have with wet paint and the different effects I can create on the canvas. So many colors can be blended into so many different forms in one painting. There is nothing like a bold subject full of highlights and shadows.
The influence and love of my Basque culture and heritage comes through my art in many ways.
I hope to display the richness of the subject matter and express the feeling of the people and places I draw and paint.

Maite's Artist Statement
When I see a random object, a fragment of beautiful paper a coin, a feather, I see its potential and its future taking shape...
I delight in the patterns found in nature and discover that its beauty is often at the root of my inspiration. I work in the moment and gather from my surroundings to create something unique and meaningful. My background, training, culture and perspectives are reflected in the way my work evolves.
My eye catches something in the light or the shapes of a scene then I capture it in my photography or create a contrasting combination of found treasured objects. I love layers of color, texture and I contentedly mix them to create an effect and often an emotion.
I may not always know what I will end up with when I begin a project, when I photograph or sit down with a collection of random items. I let my hand, eye and sentiments guide me to the end result.
My emotions are transformed through my art, my love of dance, my life. |
